Derma roller, also called as micro-needling is a simple instrument which induces collagen production and reduces acne scars, chicken pox scars, fine wrinkles, stretch marks. It is also sometimes used to induce hair growth in alopecia. This is new technique of skin rejuvenation is called “Collagen Induction Therapy”.
Derma roller is applied to the surface of the skin, which makes minute holes in the skin. Damaging the skin induces collagen and elastin production during the healing process, thus resulting in a new, plump, youthful skin.
The size of the needles in the Derma roller varies from 0.1- 2.5mm. It is very simple to use the device and can be applied on any part of the body like abdomen, face, neck, arms, thigh and scalp.
Using Vitamin A and Vitamin C creams before and after the procedure can enhance the collagen production and gives quick results.
The results are visible within 4-8 weeks. Derma roller requires regular sittings, 2-5 treatments at regular intervals. The number of treatments depends on the skin condition.
Mild discomfort and pain during derma roller treatment is common. This can be minimised by application of topical anesthesia before the procedure.
Skin can appear red, itchy and swollen after application, which usually subsides with 12-24 hours. Rarely, hyperpigmentation can occur at the area of application which gradually fades away on its own.
